To proudly proclaim like the 2011 Primary theme does “I know the scriptures are true”, takes a little missionary work from teachers and parents.  The young children that come to this earth and into our homes are waiting to be taught.  They seem to devour truth as soon as it’s laid at their feet.  As a mother, I know this is the most important mission I will ever be called to.  My children didn’t come to me with a full blown testimony.  They had no idea how the plan of happiness worked or how the priesthood worked and the significance of a temple.  But they did come to me eager to know truth, and they recognized it readily when it was taught.  I am learning more and more each day how to better teach these things to my children.  If I were a typical missionary, I would be knocking on doors or passing out pamplets on the street to find golden contacts that wanted to be taught.  In my case, I gave birth to the six golden contacts that live at my house.  They need to be carefully taught from the scriptures, and everything they are taught needs to come back as a testimony of Christ. 

I know of parents who feel insecure bearing their testimony to their children.  They feel like a primary teacher, Bishop or youth leader can do this much better than they can.  Of this I can say, I have had wonderful teachers through out my life, but nothing has touched me more than hearing my father tell me why he lived the way he did and why the gospel means so much to him.  He always felt unknowledgeable about the scriptures, but there is no one I’ve ever met who helped me understand more about the Book of Mormon and the prophets who taught about the Savior in that book.  Parents should never down play their role in teaching their children.  No other person in the entire world can do as much as one parent who loves their child.

Bear your testimony of the Scriptures to your children, other peoples children and anyone who cares to hear, so that they too may be able to confindently state, “I know the Scriptures are true!”
